I always hear the word 'innovation' tossed around these days, but I began wondering exactly what it meant to be an Innovator or an Early Adopter. My research unearthed this chart, with the accompanying explanation/description below:

And of course, I always wanted to know what a Laggard was!
It's obvious where everyone wants to be, but honestly, where do you fall on this curve? Interesting to think of yourself along these lines.....

Applications of the concepts of Diffusion of Innovation are vast. The graph below illustrates the notion in terms of the Industry Life Cycle for a product in the market place (as we are apt to do with free enterprise). Here economists and business people find answers to the five W's (who, what, when, where, and why) of marketing effectively. The chart and text below explain how the business model is affected by these notions.....

For further reading on this topic, I strongly suggest you follow this link to the blog, Comments on the Social Graph, by Tony Effik. He is the Chief Strategy Officer of Publicis Modem London and Chair of the Internet Advertising Bureau's Social Media Council. (I don't know what that means, but it sounds important). Or, for an application of the concepts in the arena of education, I recommend Journal of Extension. The site also mentions how the theories are being applied in, "...countless other fields...".
