What's New These Days....

What is L.A. to you?

To me, she is great and twisted; showing me horrors that I long after while alluding a life of the walking dead...

I am glad to report, I severed some of the tentacles that had hold of me since I left.
.That took way too long.

Egotistic presents: Charlie May @ the Standard Downtown! Pool Party on Sun April 4th! (Nightlife)

Kickin' it with Kung Fu Kev #2

Let the POOL PARTY Season Commence!
Also: A Pool Party Survival Guide....

Well, I just wanted to interject a bit..... The weather has started to comply nicely with all requests for a season change. Now, it's time to hit the gym, get a quick tan, and do whatever else you have to in order to look good in your bathing suit; 'cause this Sunday is another pool party atop the Standard downtown hotel! Although this still isn't the official start of the season, that date IS fast approaching (that's pool party season, NOT football season, for those of you needing clarification).
About the Standard
Alright, in case you don't know, this Sunday marks the second session of one of the hottest ongoing events of the year: The Standard downtown rooftop party. Yes, you read correctly, they take one of the hippest, most eclectic hotels in all of downtown Los Angeles, The Standard, and they utilize the entire rooftop to cast some of the hottest, most incredible moments taking place in our music scene. This was the location I wrote about in the first edition of Kickin' It With Kung Fu Kev, where the Desyn Masiello show on March 21st was labeled the soft opening of the pool party season. Well, if it was a soft opening then, it's sure to be a partial opening by now; as the official, rock-hard pool party season opener is set for May 2nd. This Sunday, called Egotistic, is but a tease of the glorious times ahead for all those that frequent the Standard this spring and summer. This location has it all, with a full-service bar; attentive wait staff; an all-day appetizer menu (full menu diner is in the lobby); tons of couches and other seating; a sultry dance floor; a booming sound system; large, inviting fireplace; panoramic, inspired views of downtown; a grassy knoll; water bed lounge pods (seating up to 15 of your fav friends, 10 comfortably); and yep, you guessed it, a pristine, sparkling pool, usually filled with model-types from around the globe and, previously, only in your dreams. You simply can not beat the location, the glow, the feel, the talent behind the decks, the talent in front of the decks, the pool, the music..... Anyway, everything culminates into one big bubbling smile after smile after.... bubbling..... smile. This is an event, week in and week out.

Stay in the Know (insider information about the events):
~This installment of Stay in the Know is brought to you by: 'Get Your Ass a Tan' Sunscreen and Tanning products. If you're going out, don't take it out, unless you Get Your Ass a Tan.~
This weekly party is in such high demand that hotel management brings in four promoters to host and  facilitate the events. Each promotion team is afforded the opportunity to shine only one Sunday each month. As of post time, only one of the four promotion squads has been confirmed as under contract, and they bring you this Sunday's Egotistic event: Charlie May. (If you don't know who he is, click the link on his name and read up on this one lads; he's recognized worldwide and has the skills and resume to back it up. Trust me on this, you don't want to start off your spring by missing this show!)
~So, you did it.... you went out, took it out (despite our advice), and then saw fear in everyone's eyes because they were too late to stop you? That's right, boy, now you know why we're the best; Get Your Ass a Tan sunscreen and tanning products. We won't peel your skin, if you don't peel your clothes.~

Egotistical ~ alterEgo Events
I say these things having attended this gathering of souls religiously for about two and a half years; rarely missing a week. Each and every Sunday, these shows deliver, as the atmosphere is stunning, the vibe is electric, and the dj's are amazing. It's got everything you want in a Los Angeles night life event included, except it's during the daytime; making it my favorite reoccurring party of the year. With the bar set so high, how does each weekend slot in the rotation stack up? In my eyes, one promoter seems to shine a bit brighter than the rest and my favorite spot in the rotation has always been his. His parties stand out in my memory, as those memories stayed vivid longer. I can't put my finger on what sets his parties apart from the rest; it's the it factor that no one can define, yet we are all aware of. His parties have it, whatever it is. Do you think it's any wonder that his group is already confirmed and scheduled for the first Sunday of every month, including the soft opening (March 21st), the partial opening (April 4th), and the official, rock-hard grand opening (April 11th), while the the rest of the 'rotation' starts in May? This year, the first Sunday of every month belongs to alterEgo Events and the wizardry they bring. The alterEgo Events team, with Richard Agopian as the mastermind, bring a ton of experience in the LA night life scene. They are know for maximizing sound systems in venues all around town and for landing the big-name talent we all want to see. They know how to get down, and, more importantly, they know how to help you get down. What does it all mean? The best of the best, my friend; the best promotion team takes center stage at the best party in town. All of this happens this Sunday, from 1pm to 7pm at the downtown Standard rooftop. If you aren't ready to pre-order your tickets by now, you must not have a pulse.

Oh, and, tell 'em KungFu Kev sent ya. I'll see you on the dance floor ~

P.S.-
Pool Party Survival Guide
For all those planning on attending, come prepared and dress appropriately: it is a pool party, so bathing suits are encouraged for those of you with the 'guts' or the 'girth' to wear them; loose, comfy clothing for the rest of us (with shoes to dance in, of course!); sunscreen is essential, as you are just a bit closer to the sun when you're there; sunglasses, you almost gotta have 'em; change of clothes might be a good idea; and be ready to get it on. And, if your excessive tendencies get the best of you, no worries! the place doubles as a hotel.... Don't drive drunk, just get a room!
